Flash back to October, I had just arrived in Spain and it suddenly dawned on me that I would be by myself for Christmas. After doing some browsing, I came across a Topdeck tour to Amsterdam for four days over Christmas, so I thought why not. Best decision ever. I honestly had the best Christmas, with the best group of people, despite being 20,000 km away from my family.
The trip started off at 6am in a London hostel, this is where I met my Amsterdam squad, some of the best people I have ever met (apart from the fact that they are all Aussies…). After a gruelling 10 hour travel day, we were finally in Amsterdam. I would love to go into details about what we did on the trip and what was consumed, but you know, what happens in Amsterdam, stays in Amsterdam.
Christmas day consisted of a hungover bike tour, a canal cruise (with free alcohol), an amazing assortment of Christmas jumpers, secret santa and of course a huge night out (we were in Amsterdam remember).
Amsterdam is such a cool city, everyone is so chilled and your biggest concern is not to get hit by a bike, especially the tourists on bikes. And of course there’s Heineken, no trip to Amsterdam is complete without a visit to the Heineken experience (and of course the I Amsterdam sign, you have to go there, it’s the standard tourist thing to do), where they do give you free beer.
If you’re ever going to be alone for Christmas one year, I definitely recommend doing some type of tour, you get to meet new people and see new places, what more could you ask for. Can’t wait to see what this year has in store for me!
